Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
BASR Power is a commercial energy brokerage. We shop Texas's deregulated electricity market on your business's behalf, compare pricing across suppliers, and negotiate a contract that fits your usage — at no cost to you.
Broker vs. Provider
No. BASR Power is a broker, not a retail electricity provider (REP). We don't generate or sell power ourselves — we work with licensed suppliers, including Constellation, to source and negotiate your contract. Once you sign, you're billed directly by the supplier you choose.
Zero Cost to You
Nothing. Our service is free to your business — we're compensated by the supplier once a contract is signed, similar to how an insurance or mortgage broker gets paid. There's no fee added to your bill and no cost to get a quote.
Getting a Quote
Send us a recent copy of your electric bill — a photo or PDF is fine. We'll review your usage and current rate and come back with options, usually within a day or two.
No Service Interruption
No. Switching suppliers doesn't touch your physical power lines or meter — CenterPoint, Oncor, or your local utility still delivers your electricity exactly as before. Only who bills you for the energy portion changes, with no interruption to service.
Contract Terms
We typically quote 12-, 24-, 36-, and 48-month fixed-rate terms. For most commercial customers we recommend a 36-month term — it tends to offer the best balance of rate stability and flexibility — but the right length depends on your business's plans and risk tolerance.
Rate Types Explained
A fixed rate locks in the same per-kWh price for your entire contract, so your energy costs are predictable no matter what happens in the wholesale market. Variable and indexed rates move month to month with market conditions, which can work in your favor or against you. See our Understanding Your Bill page for a full rate-type comparison.
Your Billing
You pay your electricity supplier directly, the same as you did before switching. BASR Power isn't involved in your monthly billing.
Understanding Your Bill
Your quoted rate covers only the energy portion of your bill. The rest — delivery charges from your local utility (like CenterPoint or Oncor) and state and local taxes — is separate, regulated, and added on top no matter which supplier you choose. See our Understanding Your Bill page for a full line-by-line breakdown.
